The “Ekolog” Non-Governmental Non-Profit Organization and the U.S.-based World Aral Region Charity INC (WARC) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at strengthening collaboration in environmental education, scientific research, environmental journalism, and the sustainable development of the Aral Sea region.
The signing of the Memorandum marks an important step toward expanding international cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States in the fields of environmental protection, public environmental awareness, youth engagement, and people-to-people diplomacy.
Under the Memorandum, the parties agreed to cooperate in the following key areas:
- Developing and implementing joint educational projects to enhance environmental awareness and ecological culture among communities in the Aral Sea region and other parts of Uzbekistan;
- Conducting scientific research on environmental challenges and strengthening cooperation between young people in Uzbekistan and the United States on environmental protection issues;
- Creating a joint digital archive of storytelling projects, journalistic publications, multimedia content, and other environmental communication materials developed within the framework of the partnership;
- Implementing collaborative projects in the Aral Sea region to promote the exchange of knowledge and experience between experts from Uzbekistan and the United States while strengthening friendly relations between the two countries;
- Jointly preparing and submitting grant applications to support environmental education initiatives in Uzbekistan and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
A special emphasis will be placed on the development of environmental journalism and effective environmental communication. The partners will publish journalistic articles, interviews, reports, and analytical materials on their respective online media platforms, while also translating environmental content into English, Uzbek, and Russian to make reliable environmental information accessible to a broader international audience.
The Memorandum also provides for the organization of seminars, panel discussions, public lectures, workshops, and professional training programs on environmental protection, climate change, environmental journalism, storytelling, strategic communication, and innovative approaches to addressing environmental challenges.
One of the key initiatives under the partnership will be the development of an international mentoring program for young people living in rural areas of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The program will bring together experts from Uzbekistan and the United States and will utilize modern educational technologies to strengthen participants' leadership skills, environmental literacy, media competencies, project management abilities, and international cooperation experience.
Both organizations expressed confidence that the Memorandum will create new opportunities for expanding international cooperation in environmental protection, promoting environmental education and awareness, strengthening environmental journalism, and drawing greater global attention to the environmental challenges facing the Aral Sea region.
The signed Memorandum opens new prospects for implementing joint educational, research, and communication projects aimed at protecting the environment, empowering civil society, and further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States.
